MOVIE BUFF MANIA

Ahoy, there!! Exactly after 1 month of MIA, i'm back!! Aren't you all just used to it already? Hahaha!!

Neways, I've been really busy with the stars!! No, not the astrology!! The real acting stars!! I didn't go to Hollywood, let alone Planet Hollywood!! I've just been frequently visiting the cinemas for the showdown of latest attractions. As summer is nearing, great movies are in the line-up which i wouldnt want to miss!!

I am quite a movie fan but never in my entire life so far, have I gone for any 1st day release shows. But this time, it happenned!! I got to see 3 English movies and 1 Tamil movie on the 1st day itself!! And it was all worth it!! All 4 movies were beyond my expectations! And there are still more movies to come!! Cant wait!!

The 1st movie that I went for was Fast & Furious 4. I was dying to see Vin Diesel in action again. Let's not forget the cars too!! My God, the adrenaline rush that you experience during this movie is awesome!! The perfectly planned heist and the best scene for me was when the oil tank exploded and rolled over towards Dom / Vin Diesel escapade. Cool!! I was so overwhelmed with this movie that i was imagining myself upgrading my Kelisa and racing!! I told Mummy and she freaked out!! I was explaining to her what and how i would Pimp My Ride when at that moment a divine intervention occured. You see, we were going for dinner and the car was halted at a red light. I saw something in bright yellow approaching from the back through my rear-view mirror. As it glided pass me i couldn't believe my eyes!! It was a Lamborghini!! And it stood right in front of me just as I'm talkin about Fast & Furious!! However, from the back it looked to me like...well, i know this is gonna sound weird....Bumblebee of Transformers!! I was actually waiting for it to transform!! Talk about lunacy at a differant level!! But i'm sure you would agree by takin a look at it yourself.

Next up is the Tamil movie which i mentioned earlier, Ayan. Starring the hearthrob of South Indian cinemas currently, Surya. This was a much awaited movie by the hero's fans after another wonderful hit movie which he did previously prior to this movie, Vaaranam Ayiram. The latter was a very sentimental, touching, family drama. It potrayed the bond and love between a father and son. This is Surya's second dual-role movie; first would be Perazhagan, another highly acclaimed movie.

In Ayan however, it's a total difference. It's a typical masala-mix movie. You have the love story, the villain and actions and comedy that's not only witty yet very common in today's life. The main story revolves around piracy and illegal transferring of VCDs, CDs, diamonds, etc. Thus, there is competition between the hero's gang and the villain's. They had to choose Malaysia as the most easiset hub to smuglle through goods. Anything is possible to pass through our shores, our customs!! Malaysia Boleh!!

But the proudest moment of me being a Malaysian which i can relate to the movie is the car chase that takes place in KL. This film crew were the first to gain permission from our goverment to shoot this particular scene at the monsoon drains situated along the High Court building. The chase and the drift were similar to what you would see in Fast and Furious. And that's not all....this shocker that i'm going to give you next is only made possible in Indian cinema....the car used was a Proton Wira vs 4-Wheeler Scorpio Mahendra!! Enough said!! (Don't you even dare to think about KL Menjerit & Evolusi Drift!)

Songs, locations like Malaysia, Africa and everything technical that made this movie possible were excellant!

Coming up closely behind is X-Men Origins. I never really fancied comic superheroes fanatically since young. The only character i sincerely devoted myself to was Batman. I never really bothered about the rests. But ever since X-Men was made, I totally changed my perceptions.

The massive trilogy was Mega Blockbuster!! I could never get tired of watching re-runs of it. X-Men Origins depicts mainly on Wolverine. It shows how Logan/Wolverine originated as well as other mutants. He even has a brother and they both have been existing since the 17th century!! Wolverine comes to terms with his mutant life but his brother chooses another part. The other mutants are not your Cyclops and Storm. These new characters are the original and first-found batch of mutants. Cyclops and Storm were teenagers then and were kept in captive for experimentation. It is at the ending that Professor X brings them to his salvation. Just as the title suggests, this is the first and original happenings of mutants. It is only after that X-Men evolves. You will know how Logan is made into imoortal Wolverine and his memory loss. Remember the in X-Men 1 he doesn't know his past, well this is it!

When the movie ends, not only you will be anxious for a sequel but you will also be wondering on the other mutant characters. Why weren't they present in the trilogy? Where did so-and-so go? What happenned to them? Be in for a splendid shock for the appearnces of Will.I.Am, Ryan Gosling and the super-duper South Korean-American hunk, Daniel Henney!!

Lastly but not the least, Star Trek,The Future Begins. This I was a fan of when young. And mind you, at a very tender age of 5, I was a die-hard fan of.....not Captain Kirk but Spock!!

I was kinda of worried that a remake of this series into a movie would spell FLOP or DISSAPOINTMENT. This is because the remake of the 60s sci-fi series in the 90s didn't prove itself worthy to its predecessors. The only character whom I can recall that got the young girls, especially teenagers, glued to the tv was some young kid. Oh ya, credit should be given to Patrick Stewart for the 90s series. The mania during the 90s made my classmates and I establish our very own Enterprise!! Hahaha!! Those were the days!!

In this 2009 version, just as X-Men Origins, it showcases on how the sci-fi Montley Crew lead by Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock governs the U.S.S Enterprise. Justice was well-done on the selection of actors chosen for the characters especially Spocks. I was in a rude shock when MY original Spock appeared. This is because I was told that he had passed on by my mom, many years ago!! Zachary Quinto did a good job as Spock, a role that would keep him in the good books of people despite a mysterious serial killer who stalks people with superpowers in an effort to collect their talents for himself. Yes, he is The Sylar from the series, Heroes. Zachary trained himself for his character with the guidance of the mentor himself, Leonard Nimoy who was the original Mr. Spock.

Captain Kirk never started off as a examplary leader. He's a rebel and a laid back. William Shatner was never potrayed such as far as I can remember but in Chris Pine's version, he did. It is when he realises his ability then he potrays as the most dynamic Captain.

Other characters such as Dr. Bones, Sulu, Scotty, Chekov, etc. proved equally refined performances. Wynona Ryder comes as Amanda Grayson, the human mother of Spock. His paternal clan are the Vulcans, an alien breed which do not feel. I delightfully enjoyed every moment of the movie. J. J. Abrams, bravo!!

Well, after all that trivia, which movie do you think takes the cake this round? Hmmm.....tough choice.....well, my verdict is......drumrolls...... X-MEN ORIGINS!! Applause!!

More reviews will be reeling in as this summer brings you sequels and remakes of comics especially. Till we meet again...Live long and prosper. Beam me up, Scotty!

Lately, I've been watching movies like my life depended on them:

1) X-Men Origins: Wolverine - meh! No big deal! Remind me to hand you the hardcover collection "Best of Wolverine" next time we meet. :)

2) Star Trek: Saw that twice and loved it. And I was never a Trekkie even!

3) Transformers 2: Two and a half hours that I will never get back. Loved it when the tiny Decepticon was humping Megan Fox's leg. (Yes I know - I'm a perv!)

4) The Brothers Bloom: BEST FILM I SAW RECENTLY. Rachel Weisz had an orgasm on a moving train. That's surely something that I can identify with! (Don't ask!)
