CONFESSIONS :D

I finally watched it!! The chic-lit novel made it to the big screen!! Wanted to watch it with my besties, GFs but I was so intensely crazy to watch the 1st show itself so I went with a guy friend instead, whom happened to be nice enough and free that time!!

The movie turned out just as the book. Minor twists here and there but worth every penny!! Even my friend enjoyed the movie!! It had the right dosage of humor and morale to the flick. Just as the book, I'm taken away by the main character played by Isla Fisher. She did a darn good job!!

As for the book, the setting was London but since it's an American production, New York is at its best! 5th Avenue re-lived itself just like Breakfast at Tiffany's by the most georgeous Audrey Hepburn in the 60s.

It's all about the heroine getting trapped between 2 difficult eras; fashion and finance!! And what makes the dish much better then a dash of L.O.V.E. as the the road to rehab!

I'm hoping there's a sequel just like the novel series. Hope they make it a TV series as well!!

Ok, enough of the reel world. Let's get to the REAL world. Like my title suggests, I have a confession to make on 1 of my desires. Tatoo!! (what were you thinking?)

I've been having this crave to tatoo a certain part of my body for quite some time. The reason my wish is not fulfilled is because of my fear of needles....and the bloody F-word...Finance!! (guessed wrongly, again?)

I'm still contemplating on what the design should be and where it should be!! So to put my brains to rest...just a while, my bestie GF suggested that i get a temporary 1. We went hunting high and low for really nice sticker tatoos. After 3 days of heavy duty search, we found a nice rose design but it wasn't a tatoo, a stencil. Ideas burst into our heads and we bought a shimmery pink nail polish.

We headed home and debated for quite a while on where it should be tested on. In the end, on the back of my shoulder; which is where I intend to get the real deal! GF put on her best artistic skills to use. And within minutes, Voila!! Judge for yourself.

Later that night we headed down to a cool hip-joint with another GF and had a cocktail each. I ordered the most light drink, Blue Lagoon cos I just didn't have the urge to drink that night. I recomended Sex on the Beach and Long Island Tea to both of them. Surprisingly both of their drinks were heavy on the liquor. Within minutes I noticed them both getting tipsy and laughing kinda loudly!! I wanted to hush them down but wicked of me, I was enjoying the show!

We didn't stay out long cos it was a Fri night and all of us had curfew hours...(Cinderellas!!) The laughing gas continued on till we reached home!! Hahahaha!!

HISTORY....AGAIN!!

Today marks a very important day to Malaysians especially Malaccans. Apart from it being a state public holiday (Malaysians!!), it is this date that the state government chose to inaugurate Melaka as a Historical City.

Being a Malaccan myself, I can't help but feel proud of my land. The land that I grew up in, witnessing many changes throughout my life be it historically as well as modern-day development. It is this very state that has mapped out Malaya then and Malaysia now. History was made here!! Rich in a variety of diversified culture, core landmark of history, warm, loving and harmonious-living people and not forgetting the beautiful balance of East meets West.

Too many historical moments has happened in this glorious and majestic state which makes it incomparable to the other 12 states of the country.

It was in this very state that our late 1st Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj also known as 'The Father of Independence" announced first the Proclamation of Independence in 1957. I know this historic moment at the back of my hand not because of what i studied but through the eyes of my mother whom was 10years old then! She was one of the thousands in the crowd that cheered upon his arrival.

My account of the history of Melaka is not only through reading materials and a school subject but also through the accounts of my late grandmother and my mother. I've been told stories right from the era of 1930s till life after Independence. Even the history of my late grandfather's house dates right back to the Dutch era when they conquered Melaka. The house grant is still kept safe and sound.

Melaka has been ruled by the famous Sultanate hierarchy since it was founded by Parameswara in 1400s. Then the Portugese from 1511-1640, Dutch 1641-1700s and then came the greatest empire of the world, British. However, Asia fell in the hand of the Japanese in 1941-1945. After much fight and bloodshed, we were back in the hands of the English till the whole nation stood up for their independence. Thus, 31st August 1957, freedom.

Today, we have a variety of multi-racial society living in Melaka since the 15th century. The main 3 races would be Chinese, Malays and Indians but it is only here you get the Baba-Nyonya, Melaka Chittys, Nagarathar Chettiars, Portugese and Eurasians. Whenever there is a festival involving any of these ethnic groups, the whole state joins in the celebrations. How can we forget about the varieties of food with this rich culture! Every ethnicity has its speciality in fine cuisine. So, if you want to make a documentary on food, Melaka is your 1-stop place. Be here a month and you'll definitely need a wardrobe expansion when you return!!

I could go on and on but i rather not. Just wanted to share my pride and glory of being a Malaccan especially on this date. Let me take you down to memory lane, the origin of this Land of History. Enjoy the pictures as well!

Introduction - about Melaka
The city of Melaka is host to a wide and interesting collection of a diversified culture, minority ethnic communities, a unique blend of Eastern and Western architecture and a rich background of history. As far back as the early 15th century, Melaka was already the cradle of a modern civilisation with the existence of a multi-rational society and the center of trade in the region that was even envied by the Europeans. Traders and merchants of so many nations from east and west gathered in this emporium of trade that it was recorded that as many as 84 different languages were spoken here at the height of its glory.

What people said about Melaka
From the earliest of times during the dawn of Melaka as a important trade center, traders and travelers were attracted by the city's unique blend of different culture derived from a cosmopolitan society and the beauty of Its land. Even during the time of the British colonials, Melaka was always a favorite hide away for British government officials to relax and was regarded as a health resort.

Emanuel Godinho de Eredia was one of the earliest writers about the Malay peninsula. He was commission to organise the work of mapping and prospecting by the Portuguese. He wrote "The air in Melaka is very fresh and healthy, quite the reverse of what was imagined by ancient writers Aristotle and Ptolemy, who maintained that the part of the world which lay between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn was very hot and fiery."

Even Sir Frank Swettenham, the Resident-General of the Federated Malay States found Melaka enchanting. In 1906 he wrote that "if a visitor has eyes to see and appreciate the colours, the movement, the strange people and their strangely beautiful surroundings, the scene will live in his memory for all time."

Brief history of Melaka

Parameswara - founder of Melaka
According to the legends which have been recorded by the Malay Annals and by the Portuguese, a prince who is known by the title of Parameswara from a dying kingdom of Srivijaya came to Tumasik (Singapore), killed the ruler who paid tribute to Siam and reigned there for five years until the Siamese drove him out.

While in exile, Parameswara chose Melaka as his new kingdom because here, near the hill and along the river bank, a small but aggressive white mousedeer caught his attention when the mousedeer so intimidated his hunting dogs that they turned and fell into the water. The place where the weak can triumph over the strong, Parameswara decided, would be a good location for a settlement.
The original inhabitants of Melaka were fishermen and when Parameswara settled at Melaka, in about 1400, he was soon joined by other refugees from Palembang.
Melaka had the advantage of being on the narrowest part of the Straits where the deep water channel was near to the Malaysian side. The river mouth formed a small harbour overlooked by the hill on which the ruler and his chiefs could build a fortified stockade protected on the land side by marshes. At first, no doubt, piracy and fishing were the main occupations but soon traders began to call and the little settlement prospered.

Soon Melaka became important enough to attract the attention of Siam and he had to pay tribute to their king. At this time the Ming Emperor of China were sending out fleets to the countries of south east Asia to enforce over lordship and Parameswara was glad to receive protection from the mighty China. In 1405 the Chinese emperor recognised Parameswara as the ruler of Melaka and the famous Chinese admiral Cheng Ho was dispatched to visit him in 1409. Two years later Parameswara even made a visit to China and was well received by the emperor. His successors continued to exchange envoys with China, but after 1430 strangely the Mings adopted a policy of seclusion and cease to interfere with the affairs of the lands to the south of their dominions.

Origins of the name Melaka
Historians have long debated on the origin of the name Melaka. However most have accept that it was derived from a tree commonly called Pokok Melaka (or Phyllanthus emblica or Malacca tree) which had shaded Parameswara during the encounter of his hunting dogs with the aggressive white mousedeer. The Melaka tree has juicy fruits located at the base of the leafy twigs and once grew in great abundance along the banks of the Melaka river. Now tourist can find the Pokok Melaka growing but no longer in abundance, at the car park at the Melaka museum.

Other opinions on the origin of the name Melaka : The tale of the hunting dogs and the aggressive mousedeer has been adopted by the Government as the official origin of the name of Melaka. The notion of Melaka being founded on the grounds of where even the weak can triumph over the strong is seen to be able send a powerful message to the people of the equality of rights (no matter whether big or small or weak or strong) where the country was first founded.

The day i dreaded the most arrived!! My Birthday!!

I swore to myself that there won't be any celebration this year. I even planned to get away from town the whole week!! Unfortunately, nothing ever happens as i planned. Thus, my birthday was celebrated as usual.

Mom gave away the surprise by accidentally telling me that she and aunt had already ordered my birthday cake!! I begged them not to but being the only child, i had no choice.

I started the day very auspiciously by following mom to temple. Did all the necessary and went for a light breakfast. Then collected my cake. The twist to this part is, apparently, they ordered half kg of American Choc cake. The night before, 1 of the bakery's "Most Efficient" staff sold off my cake with my name on it to someone else!! So, as a compensation, I was given the 1kg cake for the price of half kg!!

I cut the cake with my loving family members which consists of 3 people only...mom, aunt and cousin. The cake was then divided to those whom i wanted to give. The remainder of the cake however, i saved it cos i wanted to re-celebrate with a few friends later that night. Mom cut the cake in a weird shape as to avoid spoiling the wordings. I ended up wit a very weird shaped cake with my friends.

Nevertheless, my friends and I carried on with the cake-cutting ceremony once again. It wasn't a big crowd there either. Just the 4 of us. We ate and ate and drank a little too. I was more excited with my weekend plans!! Genting Highlands!!

Saturday arrived and i was counting the hours!! Got up early, did my chores and even had a nap!! My bestie gf dropped by for lunch and had to send her to her vacation plan spot!! She was going to S'pore for a week, dropped her at the bus point. Then i was off with the rest of the gang!!

We were to fetch another 2more friends along the way. Knowing their bad timing, we were stuck in the weekend jam. But as we left KL and approached the highway, it was clear. It happened to be a rainy day as well. This people also made 2 pit stops to have their meal!! What appetite!! They even bought beers for the trip!!

As my friend drove up the curvy hill, my stomach started to swirl as well. I got a weakness when it comes to curvy roads. I was distracted though by the scenery as we climbed higher and higher. The greenery and fog or mist, whatever you call it, mesmerized me. Then they stopped at a beautiful theme garden below. It looked very nice with statues depicting Chinese culture, the Pagoda tower, figurines and so on.

After few minutes, we made our journey to the top. I started feeling the coldness of the highlands, i get cold fast despite the size of my body!! I was excited with the theme park thinking that i would have the time of my life! But, i was fooled. The guys refused to bring me there and besides, the tickets were pricey too. So, i was brought to Vegas!! It's the Malaysian version-la!

There are 2 casinos. I was brought to the small one cos according to my friends, the main casino would be crowded. I played the slot machines and watched how people placed bets with their cash as if they were only born to gamble!! I felt very uncomfortable sooner or later. This was cos of the environment. I get claustrophobic and the way everyone was smoking really made me think that all i need is a few hours here to be diagnosed with cancer!! My face was getting pale and i could feel myself swaying, almost to faint. Finally, they decided to leave but made sure i was given some hot drink first.

I was given a short tour of the rest of the place. Then one of the members had a serious nature call. He dropped me and the rests at the outdoors. I loved the chill environment and the fresh air i was getting after coming out of Smoky-Hell! I also saw the whole of KL City from the top of the highlands. Night line view of the city is indescribable!!

We then decided to end our trip with a very scrumptious and grand Chinese style dinner...or supper cos it was already midnight and my hunger was proved by me being silent while eating! We reached home almost 3am cos had to drop off the rests at their homes. I still could feel the coldness of the hills in me. I took a superb hot shower and slept.

Although, I never had the chance to enjoy the games but i felt good that i finally made it to Genting Highlands. Loved the balance of nature and the theme parks. Not forgetting also the casinos! Would love to go there again but this time the games in theme park and staying over is a MUST!!

SPAS, VACATIONS, RELAXATIONS, PARTIES......etc

Talk about "taking a break", "soul-searching", "Me-time"...I think my list would be never-ending. Oh yea, let's add the word PROCRASTINATE as well!!

I've been craving for a vacation since last year..or maybe even before that..but I'm still unable to go for 1!! Don't even think about places like Bali, Paris, UK or even S'pore....I cant even make it to Penang-la!! There's always this stupid issue of finance, it's NEVERENDING!!!

However, I finally set my feet down and decided to go Penang during my birthday weekend...cos I'm desperate to leave this current town that I'm residing in. My spirits and confidence were soaring up high...I was event preparing my transportation to and fro the bus station!! My accomodation was prepared as well. I was daydreaming of being with my BGFs, Lat and Stef and another counterpart ;)

All went well until a couple of days ago!! I don't even know where and what to start cursing!! Luck? Money? Circumstances? Grrrrrr.......!! I'M CURSED!!

On the bright side, I managed to watch the sunset by the sea last week. Thanks to a special friend, I had the chance to go Port Dickson after more than a year from my last visit. Usually I put up a night but this time it was a last minute decision....cos we were bored of roundin KL and SERIOUSLY had no plans!! So having this chance itself is a blessing.

I became a kid again the moment i reached the sandy beach. It was kinda crowded but...WHO CARES!! I rolled up my jeans, ditched the heels in the car and got down to Earth. I walked along the shores, gettin my feet soaked in sand, water and salt. The feeling was amazing! I watched and observed other families especially children having their share of fun under the sun.

I was having memories and a slight twitch of envy + sadness...wishing I too had my tools to build sandcastles, run around scaring others with weird looking seaweed, burying someone in the sand, splashing water on others and getting myself drenched in the salt water. I managed to collect a few sea-shells. There were tiny little live ones too...tried to fork it out but then I decided not to. I sat on the rocks...big ones that fitted my size, of course!! Watched the beautiful scenery, not missing any inch of it!
I'm always mesmerized by sunsets, don't know why. The colour of subtle fire, reddish, orange, some shades of grey-blue and the transformation from day to night...WOW!! And it can never be seen this up close and personal than by the beach. As I was experiencing this, my mind was wondering about my life on this planet. What am I here for? What am I born to do? Why was I born? Where am I now at this point in my life?

I had a very private conversation with God there through my heart and soul. I didn't bother to find the answers to my questions but rather just live that very moment. I counted my blessings rather than sob over my mishaps in life. I kept on smiling cos my brain was functioning like MS PowerPoint showing slides of my life from baby till now.....all the good ones. I shared a few hillarious ones with my companion.

It was time to go and I felt reluctant to leave. But that's the fact of nature, every beginning has its ending. I became silent while walking back again along the shores to the car. I was getting anxious and worried about the moment I leave this place cos I've to live my normal life again!! Miracalously, the story called Footprints came to my mind. It's about a man who walks along the beach and notices 2 sets of footprints but there's no other soul there besides him. Then there's a voice he hears. It's God.....He is always by our side no matter where and when as long as we believe and have faith in Him. With that thought I leave the beach calmly and say my prayers as a form of gratitude to God for giving me this opportunity. I also in form Him that I'll be back again.

THAIPUSAM 2009.....FIRST HAND

February 6th & 7th 2009 not only was marked in the calendars but in my life as well. It was the most holy and spiritual moment in my life. Never have i felt the greatness and closeness of God like these 2days. It made a turning point in my life and i made the biggest decision ever.

This was a first time experience in my life. I've never really celebrated Thaipusam reasons being it was never an importance in my family and i'm afraid of all the bad incidents that happened in Batu Caves. However, due to fulfill my promise 2 Mummy, I had to find the way to Batu Caves so that i could bring her not necessarily on that particular festive day but when it's convenient for me. I turned to my best gf and was a little enlightened that i could go along with her n family on that day.

After much thought though, i was feelin kinda uncomfortable in burdening them that i decided to find out the routes myself, just in case. As you can see, i was still havin the fear or phobia of gettin lost in the crowds. I suffer from claustrophobia, just FYI. Anyhows, I prayed alot to Lord Muruga, the main deity of this festival as well as in Batu Caves to give me some guidance for my mother's sake. And out of nowhere, a newfound friend had to fall from the sky and help me. This particular friend happens to stay nearby Batu Caves itself! Talk about coincidence!! In a way, a good friendship blossomed between us as well.

Just a week before the festival, i had the opportunity to know the way to Batu Caves and was awed by the miracle of seeing the tall golden statue of Lord Muruga. Tears flowed down my cheeks. My feelings were so touched. And to make me more amazed n blessed that nite, this friend of mine brought me pass quite a few temples in KL town after that. Not only i got to learn the routes but also to catch the glimpse of various deities that depict so much of importance in Hinduism, a religion i grew up in and know nothing about. I'm not supersticious but that was the very day i forced mom to get my car tyres changed after havin goin through 3x of mishaps during driving. According to her, in a way I was being blessed for a safer journey in my car now onwards. I just can't thank my friend enough for this experience.

On Feb 6th, was the nite the chariot carrying the deity Lord Muruga would leave from KL Mariamman temple to Batu Caves. Hindu devotees from all corners of Malaysia and even other continents of the world took this divine opportunity to fulfill whatever vows they took, some were to just have a chance to take part in this pilgrimage and others for their own personal reasons. I had the opportunity to supposedly just follow my gf n her bro to view this and then leave back to home so that early next mornin i could bring Mom over to Batu Caves. I was getting very excited and spreadin the word around to my friends on my plans. The feedback I got was shocking cos all advised n and forced me to walk with the chariot. I'm a person whom doesn't dare with God. I just kept quiet and gave excuses. I got dressed and was waiting for my gf when she called to tell me to walk with her!! My jaws were widely opened!! I tried my luck in asking mom and to make almost faint, Mummy agreed!! After getting back to my senses, I felt this was God's will. So, in the 28years of my life, I was finally given the chance to walk for Thaipusam from KL to Batu Caves.
When i reached the KL temple i was nervous like hell!! Never have I seen that much of crowd and to top it off, Indians!! But i cast my fears away and made my mind clear on the purpose of me walking for this festival. My gf came along with her aunt and they both were carrying milk-pots (paal kudam). Ironically, I was carrying a bottle of milk in my bag!!

The thing one has to understand about Hindu devotees is that certain actions that is done during such festivities or even during any ordinary day prayers, symbolizes a way of fulfiling personal vows promised to the Gods. Thus, mankind believes, through this offerings to God, prayers will be answered or, and gratitute towards God for answered prayers.

All the way during our journey by feet, I had nothing in my mind but prayers to Lord Muruga that I make it through and reach safely at his feet. I never felt the distance neither did the pain and strain in my legs bothered me. My mouth kept on chanting prayers. I never had the interest to look at anyone but my gf to make sure she's ok and also her aunt. As time passed little did we realise we were already nearing Batu Caves. We left KL at 11.40pm and reached here at 4.45am. Again, the view of the golden statue amazed me n brought tears to my eyes. About 15minutes before reachin the temple gates, i decided to take off my slippers and walk barefoot. We finally reached, did prayers in the temple at the foot of the hill, which is a must. Then we were to start the journey throughout the 242steps to the hill temple. I totally forgot that my gf had vowed to go up the stairs on her knees!! I prayed really hard n stood by her through every single step, shouting and chanting prayers to encourage her. My heart cried out in pain for her determination and pain to reach God. We reached the hill, did our prayers, offered the milk that we were carrying and gave out a sigh of relief.

Believe me or not, going up the steps was way much easier than coming down. I wont say that i've got fear of heights but descending has always been a fear. This because u realised how steep it is. Surprisingly, God really tested me cos when we were goin down, nobody was with me!! I grabbed the side of the staircase, looked at my feet and took each step down with fear chanting God's name. My body was shivering, my head spinning, my clothes soaked in my sweat. My final step felt like I was reborn on the grounds of earth. It was then I saw my gf and shouted at her for abadoning me. But then my head spun n I was about to faint when she and her aunt carried me to the ground temple and calmed me down. We rested a while and when it was gettin brighter we decided to leave for home.

Mom was waiting eagerly for me. It was then my legs ached. I took a light breakfast and hit the sack. When I woke up later in the afternoon, my whole body ached. I felt paralysed but since it was God's will so I hardly said anything. I forced myself up and got dressed again to bring Mummy to Batu Caves. Again I prayed hard to be able to reach the temple without getting lost and I was blessed. Within minutes we reached and managed to get parking despite the heavy crowd. I decided not to follow Mom up again but then the moment I finished praying at the ground temple I changed my mind. So, I went up again! And to the shock of mom and myself, I went up on my knees for the last 20steps!! Till now, I dunno what made me do such!! Coming down was still scary for me but having Mummy holding my hands so tightly, I had it easy. We both then took a stroll around the whole temple complex not only praying but also sightseeing the variety of shops. As usual, I had to put my skills in action by recording all these events in my camera right from the nite I walked till the time Mom was with me.

After all this, I evaluated all this happenings and realised a few things. So, it was then I made a decision for the sake of my happiness in life later on. This was not only a first time experience but also and enlightenment and a awakening in my life, spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I can only thank God and Mummy for making this happen for me.

Enjoy the clips!!

ROUND UP OF 2008 & STARTING OF 2009

Hey all you beautiful people out there!! Please don't curse me....AGAIN!! I've been pretty busy with my social life which became excessive and led me 2 health problems and also not forgettin the wear and tear of my 5 years old car.

So, 2008...went by fast. A lot of heartaches than sweet memories that i can relate to. However, the blessings i got was new frens. Good, cool and happening frens. TQ guys n gals!! Luv u all!! Muaxxx!!

I had a very quiet Christmas, dinner and attended mass with my god-family. New year also was kinda low-key as i was already having my illness since the eve. Celebrated with my best fren's family.

I never did any resolutions for the new year cos i dun reli believe in it. But i do have some plans. Hopefully, with God's grace, all works out as planned. I've also been told that my horoscope aint that good this year. As much as i don't wanna be bothered by it, yet i feel i shoud just pray alot to keep my mind in peace and calm. So, i decided to go spiritual this year which happens to be a coincidence cos my baptism is in April.

We had a Christmas celebration with kids in Shah Alam. It was fun till de rain spoilt it. So, in de end we ended up playin de games in de rain!! My group had water balloons and flour!! So, i ended up goin home in batter form!! I had to take revenge, thus, messed up my team leader's car. Hehehe......

I also had de opportunity to put up my 1st Christmas tree!! I was so moved by it that i cried tears of joy!! Talk about being emo!! Just for a change, i also went to highlite my hair for the upcoming celebrations. Simply la!!

My best fren finally came back after almost a month being in Singapore. She came just in time for new year. She dragged me back to her home and i had a beautiful opening to the new year. We had prayers and went out for a drink. The next day, which was new year itself, i was attcked by the worst fever ever. I had 2b in bed, alone at home. She came over n again dragged me to her grandfather's temple, Buddhist temple and church in Bangsar and Brickfields. My fever got worst after that. Too much of God's blessings i guess??
That night again she dragged me 2 her home. They were planning to celebrate her 2nd bro's birthday which was on the 2nd. I was touched by how they accepted me in the family. They really showered me with lotsa love and care. Her mother sees me as her eldest daughter. Even her 2nd bro, who happens 2b a very reserved person, acknowledged me as his elder sis and socialised with me well. My galfren was reli surprised. But i felt bad cos i didn't get anything 4his birthday. But i guess de warmth of their love was enough.

Enjoy and have a god year ahead!!
